There are two main pest cockroaches species found in the UK both requiring a different approach to treatment.

The German cockroach (Blattella germanica) (commonly confused with the Asian cockroach (Blattella asahinai).
German cockroaches are unable to survive in colder environments but are commonly found inside buildings in urban areas. They will be close to warmer areas such as kitchens, bathrooms and central heating or electrical systems that generate heat. They also require access to drinking water.
Treatment involves insecticidal gel baits and/or residual chemical spraying to infested areas followed up with monitoring using insect glue traps to ensure success.
The Oriental cockroach (Blatta orientalis) (again not the same as the Asian cockroach).
These cockroaches prefer damper more solitary environments than the German cockroaches and are more likely to be found in a buildings wall or floor cavities, around drainage systems, but still prefer more warmth than other species.
Treatments include insecticidal gels, although not as effective as they are to with the German cockroaches, residual sprays, aerosols, and trapping. Treatment times are longer with follow-ups required for months after the initial treatment due to the long incubation time of the eggs. (40+ days vs the 24hrs for the German)
